Student Financial Aid can assist with grants to help students in financial need, including the Housing grant for renters. Applications and the full list of grants can be made on the Financial Aid website.

Student Financial Aid also assists students with interest-free loans, Centrelink issues and general money and budgeting advice. Appointments can be made on 8344 6550.

Genetics Department Welcome BBQ

We will be organising a short welcome address, followed by a relaxed BBQ held in the Genetics building courtyard. “Bariatric (weight loss) surgery: your questions answered”

Bariatric Surgery: the most common procedures used in Australia, the pre and post surgery care and maintenance, and the risks and benefits of surgery will be discussed. This will be followed by Emily O’Loughlin’s (comedian) personal story and our panel of experts taking your questions.

2012 Graduate Careers Fair

Date: Wednesday 7 March

In 2012, the Graduate Careers Fair will be staged at the Royal Exhibition Building, Carlton Gardens. This year 100 to 150 employers are expected to participate.

The majority of employers attending the Graduate Careers Fair offer structured graduate employment programs and actively recruit final year students to commence full-time employment with them in the following year.

All are welcomed to attend and meet a variety of employers including accounting, law and insurance companies, investment banks, management consultancies as well as local, state and federal government departments.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)

Date: Applications open Monday 26 March and close Friday 13 April
Times: Positions will commence during the winter vacation period

UROP offers "real life" experience of research through casual employment of a student in a research laboratory or team in the biomedical field. The Veterinary Science Open Day is an opportunity for future students and the community to go behind the scenes of our state-of-the-art Veterinary Hospital in Werribee.

Visitors will have the opportunity to speak with veterinary staff, meet current students and tour our outstanding facilities.

Course and career advice will be available throughout the day, giving prospective students and their parents the opportunity to learn about the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine graduate program.

The University of Tokyo Research Internship Program (UTRIP)

Dates: 18 June - 27 July 2012 (First crew) and 2 July - 10 August 2012 (Second crew)

UTRIP is a six-week program for students currently in the 2nd or 3rd year of the Bachelor of Science degree majoring in natural science and other relevant fields. You'll have the opportunity to experience life as a graduate research student, working with leading researchers at the Graduate School of Science at Todai, as well as enjoy off-campus activities and various social and cultural events. Participants will also receive financial support to cover travel and accommodation costs. Applications close 16 March 2012.

The Rosshandler Summer Science @ Weizmann Scholarship

The Dr Bessie Lawrence International Summer Science Institute (ISSI) is a prestigious summer school program, bringing together 90 talented science students from all over the world to the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel. Win one of three selective scholarships covering program fees, accommodation (approx value $4500) and an additional $2000 towards travel costs to Israel (if traveling specifically from Australia for the program).

Work on live projects with leading scientists in the Weizmann Institute’s world class laboratories from Monday 2 - Friday 27 July 2012.
